where the wild things are, the movie and there will be a book too! Dave Eggers novel, The Wild Things, will be released alongside the film. Heres a little excerpt from Egger's Max at Sea, and the full text here on the new yorker.

they only come out at night...

recently i completed my first big order for 3 sets of stars. seeing them done got me inspired to document them all together. i thought this dark and glowy image represented my idea of these pieces and how i see them well.

painting with light is easy. its a fun photographic experiment with serendipitous results. while looking for a how-to link i came across these "spray can" lights, by Aïssa Logerot, made for "painting" with light graffiti stylie. so good. how smart is it that when the batteries run low you recharge them by shaking the can. snap.

studio on fire has made this letter press poster for a show, sweet hair, which benefits locks of love. it took me just a second to fall hard. letter press has such a nice texture and i've long been interested in hair, as a material and in victorian hair work and mourning objects.

the whole text, a chinese proverb, reads, "you cannot prevent the birds of sadness from passing over your head, but you can prevent their making a nest in your hair."

+ i love the style of this new to me blog, reference library. it's like a museum, with interesting ebay finds/misses and vintagey goodness, like that wedding day textile image up there.

+ visited the show, don't perish, at leo koenig inc. projekte. it's amazing conceptually, because it's not just a gallery show, but a food bank and gathering space for bi-weekly potluck dinners. the gallery space is lined with shelves for donated food and built in fold down tables for dinning in the gallery space. i want to go to a dinner night, tuesdays and saturdays, but you got to bring a dish to share. if you are in ny you have to go support this show and bring a canned food donation! go, go, go! i need to do a post just about the show...

thanks to one of my lovely customers i am able to share this cute story. a custom heart was given as a wedding gift and it became part of the design for their engagement party cake. they got my hand writing down perfectly! i love all the stitching details!

heart factory....

...last weeks work...

i am a lucky girl, so very grateful to be busy and working full time on Miniature Rhino. it's something i never saw coming. it's just grown real organically. not having a business background i'm learning as i do this and feeling so overwhelmed. the other night i was apparently talking in my sleep about "the orders". i don't think i've talked in my sleep before but the pressures of managing a small business solo feel intense. don't take this as complaining please, it's just a new world for me. i never would have thought i would (or could) be working from home on the things i make! blows my mind as i eat cereal at noon, sitting at my work table and stitching.

while drinking my late morning tea and flipping through some of my old books I found this back page of a school music book. it made me laugh and smile, even though its kinda mean, finding interesting text in books, like margin notes, signatures with dates, dedications and underlining are some of my favorite things in old and secondhand books. so this - colors, text, and fake keyboard- made my day...

when i saw these new zipper pouches by Cheyne of Cut Out and Collect i just had to share. typewriter text, boobies, and all for a good cause. all profits are going to be donated to a 3-day walk for breast cancer. support the cause! fyi-october is national breast cancer awareness month.

my 5 year diary...

...finally after a year of watching my boyfriend write in his 5 year diary every night i've gotten my own. (i got it at cog&pearl, my favorite shop in park slope) sometimes he'll read to me what happened on this day exactly a year ago and it always is so crazy to me how skewed my sense of time is and how horrible my memory is. i'll think, "that was a year ago?!" or i may not even remember something at all. so i've wanted to start my own for awhile now.

the design, by Tamara Shopsin, is great- simple and clean. i love the significance of the tree slice on the front of the book. there's also a space to log your travel and the books you've read...Tamara also makes these pins.... ! it's a "real lincoln quote, forged handwriting"
