halloween forever!

I know it's been a bit since halloween, but the day after I left town for a few days and I'm just getting back to my pictures now. I love, love, love halloween, but it always seems to sneak up on me. I always have high hopes for pumpkin picking, corn mazes, halloween decorating, pie baking and elaborate costume making but yeah, that didn't happen.

I did manage to squeeze in making a Yayoi Kusama costume. She's the queen of the polka-dot & I'm totally enamored with her. I love how it all turned out! Jeremy dressed up as a skeleton, and we went to dinner. It was so, so fun to walk around NYC on halloween night with so many people dressed up. The Empire State Building was even lit up like a giant pumpkin.

Here's to holding on the autumn & halloween for as long as we can! Hope you had a great one. I'd love to hear how you celebrated!!

Halloween Freebie - Gimme All the Candy!!

The countdown to Halloween is on! Only four more days. So close and I haven't even decorated or  planned a costume. I've been in a work bubble toiling away at some big projects and the holidays coming up. I wish I was a kid again.

Speaking of kids, I made these card designs for a kids class I taught at the Mulberry Street Library, which is probably the closest thing to a Harry Potter library here in NYC. You'd never know there was a library there and it's built in a former chocolate factory. The kids called the bat "derpy" and got into stitching. I thought I'd share one of the templates here for you to do yourself or as a fun project with kids. It can be a card or enlarge it to stitch onto a tote bag for a most excellent trick or treat bag! Now, I must do this immediately.

Pumpkins for Design*Sponge

Halloween is my favorite holiday, so when Design*Sponge asked me to contribute a design to their D*S Pumpkin Project I was all about it.  Carving pumpkins is such a fun way to spend a day and totally got me into the Halloween spirit. I made a simple design inspired by a vintage danish dish that was gifted to me. It's one of my favorite everyday objects.

What are you doing to get into Halloween?

This is scary...

...not really, but this is Halloween! It's one of my very favoritest holidays ever ever. I love dressing up, baking sweets and watching scary movies. I watched Paranormal Activity 2, Trick 'r Treat, Creepshow, and The Crazies. I need to add Monster Squad into the mix too! I also love this guide to horror movies filmed in NY on Scouting NY.

I was a greaser for a halloween party we went to this weekend. Watch the pomp!  Hopefully tonight we will get lost in a corn maze or carve pumpkins and watch more silly scary movies!

the witch in me...

I know Halloween in over, but I wish it wasn't I love dressing up, baking pumpkin pie and visiting old farms on blustery days. I though I'd share my Halloween costume with you.  It was created around this little witch hat made by Chad of Mon Petit Fantome (you must check out his music too!)  I loooove it so much and am tempted to wear it always. It's so perfect and cute and really made my outfit.

I had fun putting together the details... a cast bat skull, a sacred heart necklace,  of a thousand sorrows, by Blood Milk (one of my favorite things to wear!!), a vial containing crystals and coral, feathers, a string of tiger eye stones, and a little drawstring bag filled potion-y.

 

came home to my own little dæmon, bug in a little pumpkin bandana.

What are you dressing up as & what are you doing? I'm gonna be a witch and Bug, my dæmon. We definitely want to check out the Village Halloween Parade, which is madness but the best costume gazing. I'd love to go dancing too!

i loves me some halloween...

... it's the perfect season for baking and watching horrible horror movies whilst you frost disfigured pumpkin, bat, cat and owl cookies.  The cookie cutters are from a vintage set we were given and I have been waiting so long to use them.  No a three year old didn't make these, me and my boyfriend did, and were damn proud. It was delicious and we had so much fun! Bug agrees, nom...

a halloween recap....

we went to queens county farm museum to pick some pumpkins for carving and maybe some pie making. i was pleasantly surprised to find there were animals to coo over, pet and pester. i love petting goats! i chased around the poka dot feathers, which i learned are from female peacocks, and was generally happy to play in a farm and watch all the little kids in their costumes.

later jeremy carved the cat pumpkin and roasted the pumpkin seeds. the ears kill me. we watched a bunch of horror movies and i worked on a new batch of books to prepare for the my shop update yesterday.

the little drummer in yellow is my Mom!! her little high water pants just kill me. so sweet!

she told me that every halloween my grandmother would pull out a box of costumes and that everyone would pick an outfit and that she would always want to be "the drummer". i love hearing these kind of stories about my family.

i'm bummed to not have had time to make an outfit or dress up. are you dressing up? what are you!? what will you be!?! let me live vicariously through you.... this was on the back of the image above. i love the notes we write on the back of images....

when asked at the halloween showing of his new movie what he'd like his epitaph to read he said, "Fooled Ya Suckas"

+ i had my 2nd sewing class and purl bee, which is such a beautiful store, tiny but filled with the most amazing fabrics. check them out for their blog, great projects, photos and super helpful tips and then go for a visit. i learned about the water soluble pen from them and its my best friend for embroidery now. see how nice their images are:(via purlbee.com)
+a trip to evolution

+on All Souls Day the Greenwood Cemetery had a tour lead by a Hatian Rara band...amazing! Greenwood is huge, with very old graves with great imagery and lots of history. i had no idea it existed before this day.there are tropical parrots that live in the cemetery all year long and they've been living there for 35 years! they were so noisy, but so wonderful to see...
