Month of Mail: day 3

a postcard by Mon Petit Fantome...

Sending this postcard is like sending a miniature piece of art. I'm a big fan of Chad's work and I'm happy to have a few of his papercut prints me in my home that he has sweetly given me. Another thing I really like about Chad too, is how he supports other makers, shares their work and makes connections by being so friendly and reaching out. I love sending his work out into the world...

Not much more from this week, because well, it's an embarrassing story... I did the dumbest thing early this week. I was standing on a swivel chair photographing some paper cuts Chad, of Mon Petit Fantome, sent me – lovely, lovely papers cuts of Jeremy & I – and like an idiot I fell off said swivel chair. Didn't even get the picture! I was pretty much out of it physically the rest of the week, and since Jeremy was away for work until Sunday night, there was no one to help me out in my pathetic state.

This reminded me of a David Sedaris story, Monster Mash, where he visits a morgue.  He describes the people and the unpredictable ways that they died – a woman is hit by a car while waiting in line at a hamburger stand, a man falls from a ladder while trying to change a light bulb. Of this man's autopsy he says it "was the best argument for the buddy system I'd ever seen." Moral of the story, don't stand on a swivel chair and don't eat hamburgers. 

Sunday was the best though! Crafting at Etsy with some lovely, inspiring, crafty ladies, like Nicole of Astulabee, one of my favorite makers! Danielle is fostering Myrtle, that little lady in the bag. Little fuzzy ones + crafty lady mimosa times, best end to a lame week....

the witch in me...

I know Halloween in over, but I wish it wasn't I love dressing up, baking pumpkin pie and visiting old farms on blustery days. I though I'd share my Halloween costume with you.  It was created around this little witch hat made by Chad of Mon Petit Fantome (you must check out his music too!)  I loooove it so much and am tempted to wear it always. It's so perfect and cute and really made my outfit.

I had fun putting together the details... a cast bat skull, a sacred heart necklace,  of a thousand sorrows, by Blood Milk (one of my favorite things to wear!!), a vial containing crystals and coral, feathers, a string of tiger eye stones, and a little drawstring bag filled potion-y.

 

came home to my own little dæmon, bug in a little pumpkin bandana. 

Paper Cut magic....

...because it seems impossible to creat something so intricate and detailed out of a simple sheet of paper.

who showed me an incredible kindness with the gift of this hair piece! its is lovely- feathers, shells and flowers for my messy head. not just this but the paper cut prints below as well. all out of the blue. just because. how amazing are you chad! it made me so happy. many, many kind thanks! see this is why chad is my etsy boyfriend.

snake skin and buttons...

...came in the mail today thanks to my etsy friend allison of monkeys always look. i like her lots!

how beautiful is this!? the patterns and coloring. it reminds me of honeycombs.
when i turned around to put my camera away i saw the bug watching me in shadow. thank you allison!!! and i can't wait to show off some more incredible goodies i got from my

mail love and other stuff...

these past few weeks have brought me some amazing mail- one of my favorite things. so many, many thanks to these kind friends..

mr. Mon Petit Fantome, (who jeremy calls the Kevin Bacon of the etsy world because there seems to be three degrees between him and any etsy shop- he's just that nice!) sent me some mix CD's and this lovely little print he used for a note..

I got a set of Alyssa's Uninvited Guests Doilies that came awhile back in the smartest packaging. these little doilies were wrapped in a gingham paper, like a table cloth. so good. i put them up in a little corner and you can see Chad's bear there close by in the second picture too...

Nicola,
is one of my great friends from school. she makes a-ma-zing baklava from an old family recipe. It's seriously delicious and insanely good. how amazing is it to get fresh, homemade baklava in the mail?!! **i'm pushing her to make an etsy store and pretty soon there should be one up.
any one interested?!**

she also sent me these tiny, vintage books which upon seeing i literally screamed in delight...

also a friend from school, sent me a curious new friend, but how the hell did she get the rhino in that little box? ha! so fun to receive. the package also had a vintage embroidery hoop, and a small, vintage glass bottle. the bug liked it too...

other wise this weekend has been spent lazily working. heres what i've been making of late:
new little/big constellations. here's a 5" Orion...chad, alyssa, nicola and toni thanks for all the mail love!!!

(good) mail makes things better

this past week and last i've received some very nice mail. mail, other than bills and solicitaions, like a hand written letter or etsy treasures bring me joy. i'll already know whats in a package- i bought it- and i'll be just as excited, probable more, as if it were a gift or surprise.

well, i recently traded with Chad of the dark and beautiful etsy shop Mon Petit Fantome. we bonded over our love for Let the Right One In. he makes silhouettes of animals and imagined narratives, paintings and dreamy music under the title St. Mary's. I got two! CDs...they are beautifully packaged. i'm a sucker for wax seals and vintage imagery and beyond that the music is so nice. i listened to it here and then i interweb stalked Chad till i got my own copies. grab your own copy here sans the creep factor. thank you much Chad!
i also received this page torn from a book from my sweet friend katrina. she knows that i love the silhouettes. i made images of my family in silhouette while we were in school together. i posted some a while back here. she's far but not forgotten- thank you if you ever see this! katrina makes beautiful images of her family and home in Argentina.

it's her constant project documenting her family and the images are still, full of traces of lives and longing. she has a nice website too where you can see much more...
