Cats in Space...
and other thoughts on making...
Today Design*Sponge is sharing the fourth :) and final :( post in my Embroidery 101 series. I really wanted to go all out for this last project, so I made an epic constellation table runner piece. It's really not hard to make at all, just large in scale. It's almost funny how I always underestimate the amount of time making something really takes, especially when I'm simultaneously creating a pattern, instructions and documenting images for others to follow. My aim is to enjoy the making process & I really did with this starry piece (even though I cried out of maddening frustration when my sewing machine just would not to work anymore. Why machine, why?).
Here are some behind the scenes of creating the pattern and working on the piece. Bastian was really into rolling around on the paper pattern. I squealed with so much delight on seeing his goomby* face in space, his little furry paws amongst the stars...
Goomby: goo-m-bie adj. of or pertaining to the gooniest of goons. (© 2013 Jessica Marquez) ;)

Head on over to D*S for the full project, pattern & instructions. Woo woo!
* I always refer to Bastian as goomby. I've no idea where this came from, or exactly what it means, but he's so damn goomby & cute!

Embroidery 101 with Design*Sponge
I'm so honored and proud to be a guest contributor to Design*Sponge for an Embroidery 101 series of how-to and projects. For the first post, which went up yesterday, I used the running stitch to create an Ombre Summer Scarf. It's a super easy stitch that's incredibly useful and beautiful. The scarf itself (and I know I'm totally biased, but it's true) is lovely and warm and my new favorite. I love the subtle gradation of colors and how the two sides contrast and compliment the ombre effect. Go check it out!
thank you Design Sponge!
It's a wonderful feeling to wake up to a feature of my Zodiac Kits one of my favoritest blogs, Design Sponge! Thanks so much for this pick-me-up Grace!
Grace mentions that she's a bit of an astrology cynic, but that her friend Amy has a pension for astrological musings, which are rubbing off. I'm somewhere in between. I really like reading my horoscope and love looking at the stars, but I'm more into the mythology rather than astrology. I think it's just fun to talk about signs and who you're supposed to get along with more, or stay away from, and to guess peoples signs. Plus the constellations are just beautiful....
So what's your sign? Do you follow astrology?

tara of seven spoons and julia rothman in cahoots with Design Sponge truly made my day today! thank you! tara used a little badge i made her on this wreath she made. pink and green never looked so good. tara's blog has some drool worthy photography and great ideas for kitchen witchery.
aaaand to there was a little miniature rhino love on Design Sponge's 2009 blogger's wishlist. 21 bloggers were asked what they'd like to give and receive and my little bee piece was chosen by julia rothman, of the insanely great blog book by its cover, as something she'd like. it actually just sold the other day! i'm feeling the love....
