The work of Laura Splan seems impossible, lovely and grotesque. The gloves and embroidery in the hoop above are made from cosmetic facial peel. How she can hand embroider on such a delicate, disposable material is beyond me. In the last image, a machine embroidered lace doily, she visualizes the influenza virus. The others, like HIV and Herpes, are equally mesmerizing. So tactile- I want to touch the them! Science with art is my favorite!
