+ too busy crafting for two events back to back next weekend.  mark your calendars!!!

saturday, april 24 the {New New} Spring Handmade Cavalcade at Berry Park, 10 - 5 pm
a craft fair featuring 25  new york crafty ladies and gents.  berry park is a nice, kick back bar. i'm on the roof and it's going to be a beautiful day.  imagine it: you, some friends, a beer in the sun on the roof. come out and play and do say hello....

and sunday april 25 Homemade: Brooklyn, 522 metropolitan, 12- 8pm
homemade: brooklyn is a pop-up shop organized by the shiny squirrel with lots of designers, artists, and events. i'll have a really fun, interactive, tiny mail making stand.  it will be super cute and typewriters are involved!  come by and make mail with me!!!

wax seal rings!

i came across these seal rings from Blind Spot Jewellery (etsy) on their flickr. i am duly impressed. i love creating beautiful mail and often use sealing wax on special packages and letters, so i'd love one of these rings. but which!? they are lovely rings in themselves, but with the utilitarian aspect and old timey charm they are just so crazy good!
and check out their how to on using sealing wax with these rings hereall images via Blind Spot Jewellery

mail love and other stuff...

these past few weeks have brought me some amazing mail- one of my favorite things. so many, many thanks to these kind friends..
Chad ~ Mon Petit Fantome...
mr. Mon Petit Fantome, (who jeremy calls the Kevin Bacon of the etsy world because there seems to be three degrees between him and any etsy shop- he's just that nice!) sent me some mix CD's and this lovely little print he used for a note..
Alyssa ~ BrooklynRehab
I got a set of Alyssa's Uninvited Guests Doilies that came awhile back in the smartest packaging. these little doilies were wrapped in a gingham paper, like a table cloth. so good. i put them up in a little corner and you can see Chad's bear there close by in the second picture too...
Nicola,
is one of my great friends from school. she makes a-ma-zing baklava from an old family recipe. It's seriously delicious and insanely good. how amazing is it to get fresh, homemade baklava in the mail?!! **i'm pushing her to make an etsy store and pretty soon there should be one up.
any one interested?!**

she also sent me these tiny, vintage books which upon seeing i literally screamed in delight...
toni,
also a friend from school, sent me a curious new friend, but
how the hell did she get the rhino in that little box? ha! so fun to receive. the package also had a vintage embroidery hoop, and a small, vintage glass bottle. the bug liked it too...
other wise this weekend has been spent lazily working. heres what i've been making of late:
new little/big constellations. here's a 5" Orion...
chad, alyssa, nicola and toni thanks for all the mail love!!!

(good) mail makes things better

this past week and last i've received some very nice mail. mail, other than bills and solicitaions, like a hand written letter or etsy treasures bring me joy. i'll already know whats in a package- i bought it- and i'll be just as excited, probable more, as if it were a gift or surprise.

well, i recently traded with Chad of the dark and beautiful etsy shop Mon Petit Fantome. we bonded over our love for Let the Right One In. he makes silhouettes of animals and imagined narratives, paintings and dreamy music under the title St. Mary's. I got two! CDs...they are beautifully packaged. i'm a sucker for wax seals and vintage imagery and beyond that the music is so nice. i listened to it here and then i interweb stalked Chad till i got my own copies. grab your own copy here sans the creep factor. thank you much Chad!
i also received this page torn from a book from my sweet friend katrina. she knows that i love the silhouettes. i made images of my family in silhouette while we were in school together. i posted some a while back here. she's far but not forgotten- thank you if you ever see this! katrina makes beautiful images of her family and home in Argentina.

it's her constant project documenting her family and the images are still, full of traces of lives and longing. she has a nice website too where you can see much more...

All this is mine....

In the endless spiral that is the interweb I stumbled upon All This Is Mine today...and wholly crap how great are these images of this edition of the ATIM POSTAL PARCEL

They are filled with mail related ephemera. I'd love to receive one of these packages and pour over all these papers, but its all sold out. This is exactly the kinda of stuff I hoard and like to share, but have such a hard time parting with. I wonder how Sugene, the woman behind All this Is Mine, does it. She finds these amazing things and then sends them off.

Is there any mail-trade-ephemera kinda thing out there...how great would that be?!!! Imagine making and receiving things like this periodically from friends and kind strangers. It would be fun...anyone up for it?!

+sexy people makes me laugh....

write a letter!

i love love love snail mail. love getting letters and writing and take extra care and attention when i do so, lots of doodles, nice paper, stamps and sometimes for extra special things a wax seal. bills, however, not so fun, but this image via inchmark.squarespace.com makes those security envelopes look good.

when i saw this today i thought it was so beautifully presented and interesting. i'm also a fan of the little tape marks. these are the insides of security envelopes. reusing these is a great way to recycle, plus the patterns are kinda amazing. he also posts on his blog a link to a flickr set collection of these.

the first time i saw these put to good use was on remake's etsy store, which is no longer open. i wish that i had know about her stuff sooner and gotten one of her journals. (what happened—it looked like such a successful store?) these are some of her repurposed security envelopes. great idea.
