Squam Art workshops is quite possibly the best work vacation. Ever. I spent a week in the woods of New Hampshire in a cabin overlooking Squam Lake and teaching embroidery classes (my class) to creative, enthusiastic, inspiring women. These women are hardcore makers, mostly knitting, but just really interested in learning, growing, and connecting to other makers. It's an inspiring environment on many levels, and I feel very grateful to be able to be in their company and share some embroidery skills.
It's so beautiful there! My classroom over looked a cove of the lake where they kept the boats, so all throughout class you'd see boats sailing out to the lake....
We made customizable embroidery pieces...
There were yarn and pom-pom bombings and garlands wrapped around treed greeting you as you walked throughout the woods...
I caught a dragon fly that decided to hang out for awhile...
The cabins are cozy and beautiful. Each has it's own dock, where it's quite customary to see people sitting and knitting. The brave ones jump in!
One of the best parts of Squam is that it's a place to play while learning. I love that we can just sit and make, no distractions but the beauty around us....
Lots more pictures in my flickr set and the Squam Flickr pool. Learn all about Squam here- They even have retreats in Italy!!
LOVE that dragonfly photo, and the lake shots! Next year I need to get someone to take a picture of me jumping in, haha. Also love the photo you got of me stitching (and the photo of me and Elizabeth in the flickr group! Thank you for taking it!)
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for being awesome in general. :}
This looks like such a wonderful week. :) I wish I had known about Squam when I was living on the east coast, it sounds like so much fun!
